Dining Guide: The Victoria Inn, Salcombe

For the past ten years we’ve been heading down to the south west coast for our family holidays. Dubbed the “English Riviera”, the south coast of Devon is renowned for its stunning beaches, clear waters and amazing food and drink.

A particular favourite of ours is the town of Salcombe and nestled in the centre is the multi award winning Victoria Inn. A traditional pub with traditional values, serving exceptional meals alongside the biggest gin collection I’ve ever seen!

The Team

Liz and Tim have been running ‘The Vic’ since 2008. Not only have they created an establishment that is homely, friendly and sustainable, they have become a crucial part of the community. This has allowed them to get to know the local fishermen and farmers and source their produce right on their doorstep.

Liz is the kind of lady who greets you with a smile, no matter the weather or how busy it is. She sets the standard for hospitality and never fails to make you feel welcome. Over on her blogs she gives an insight into the life of a pub landlady and it’s a great way of keeping up to date with what’s going on in Salcs!

Tim has gained a reputation for his great taste in wine, recommending different ones each month, and for his recipe for Sticky Toffee Pudding! It’s so good that we never need a dessert menu! If you’re questioning whether it’s actually that good, since trying Tim’s STP I’ve been on a mission to find one better, and I haven’t!

Along with Liz and Tim are a team of individuals who give their very best! The passion of the kitchen team is served up on every plate and carefully and attentively delivered to your table by the Front of House Team. Professionalism is key here and makes diner here a great experience.

The Food

There are two menus; the main menu made up of traditional pub meals and a special menu featuring the very best of the local produce. The special menu changes daily, reflecting the seasons and showing off the skills of the kitchen team.

‘The Vic’ is approximately 20 meters from the sea with their crabs and lobsters being supplied only 10 minutes walk away on the Fish Quay. Their meat comes the Salcombe Meat Company where the meat is so local, the owner Alex Brazier knows exactly where the cattle came from.

Our Holiday Local

We first stayed in Salcombe six years ago and we’ve made ‘The Vic’ our local every year since. This year I reached out to Liz, Tim and their team to ask if I could come in one day before service to work on my restaurant photography. In true Vic style, I was welcomed and encouraged, receiving some priceless advise from Liz and an experience I will never forget! I wanted to write this post as a thank you to them and to encourage more people to visit.
